The Book of You

Stop scrolling the world

Start reading your life

Reflective coaching that brings clarity, purpose, and direction to midlife transitions.

The Book of You offers both one-to-one and small group narrative coaching, built around a simple idea:

Your life is a book and makes more sense when you read it properly.

Through guided reflection, we explore the chapters that shaped you, the turning points, patterns, and beliefs you carry, and bring clarity to the chapter you’re in now. From there, we begin to write what comes next with intention rather than habit.

Whether working privately or alongside others at a similar stage of life, this is a calm, thoughtful space to understand yourself better and choose your next chapter consciously. The Book of You offers something rare: a reflective, structured space to understand the chapters that shaped you and to write the ones you want to live next.

Your Life is a Book, Not a Feed.

The world wants you to live in headlines. But you are not a soundbite. You are a volume. You are a collection of intricate chapters, plot twists, and hard-won wisdom. Your life isn’t a collection of random moments to be managed; it is a story to be understood.

The Book of You is your invitation to step out of the stream. In an age of shallow distractions, looking inward is a radical act of reclamation. While you cannot control the global narrative, you can absolutely choose the narrator’s voice in your own head.

The world will keep scrolling. But your book is waiting for you to read it, to understand and learn from it.

How do you want to spend the rest of your story?

If you have found yourself asking this question lately, you are not alone. It is the quiet realisation that often comes when the noise of the world slows down, we reach certain milestones in life, or when a major life event forces us to look at the clock.

This practice is for you if you are feeling…

  • A lack of agency. You feel like your life is just "happening" to you—reactive, fast, and cluttered. You want to move from being a character in the background to the intentional author of your own days.

  • The weight of midlife. You’ve reached the halfway point and realised you’ve been living out a script written by your younger self, or by other people’s expectations. You are ready to reclaim your own direction.

  • Stuck in a career that no longer fits. You’ve built a professional life that looks successful on paper, but it doesn't align with who you are now. You’re wondering if it’s too late—or just the right time—to start a different chapter.

  • The disorientation of loss. Whether you have lost a parent or a long-held role, the "old normal" is gone. These moments often bring us face-to-face with our own mortality, reminding us that our time is finite and prompting the question: How do I want to spend the rest of my story?

  • The pull of the past. You find yourself looking back at old regrets or "failed" projects, wondering how you ended up here. You want to integrate those chapters so they stop holding you back from your future.

  • The quiet of an empty nest. Your children have moved on, and you’re suddenly faced with the question of who you are when you aren’t "parenting" every hour of the day.

How does it work:

1. Pause the story

We begin by slowing things down. This is space to step out of momentum and look at your life with fresh eyes.

2. Read the chapters so far

Together, we explore the experiences, turning points, roles, and beliefs that have shaped you — noticing patterns you may never have named.

3. Clarify the present chapter

We bring clarity to where you are now, separating who you’ve been from who you’re becoming.

4. Write what comes next

With a clearer sense of authorship, we begin to shape the next chapter, guided by intention rather than habit or expectation.

5. Take it into life

Insight only matters if it changes how you live. We translate reflection into thoughtful, grounded action.

By the end, you’ll know your patterns, understand your choices, and have clarity about your next chapter.

This work is offered through one-to-one narrative coaching or small, facilitated group programmes, depending on how you prefer to reflect and grow.

Both are calm, structured, and designed for people who want clarity, not hype.

The Person Behind the Pen

I’m Matt Ball and I have spent years listening to the echoes of lives already lived. As a funeral celebrant, my work was to gather the fragments of a biography and shape them into a story that felt true.

Alongside that work, I’ve had to look back at my own chapters, honestly, and often uncomfortably and do the same reading, editing, and authoring I now guide others through. That combination of holding other people’s stories and facing my own is what shaped The Book of You.

So many of us move through mid‑life so fast — scrolling, reacting, coping — that we forget we are the authors. The best time to understand your life is while you’re still living it. My work is to help you make sense of the chapters behind you and write the ones ahead with clarity and intention.
